Stevenage

Stevenage was designated the United Kingdom’s first New Town On 1 August 1946, new towns were a series of towns built near London after World War II. Since becoming a New Town, the population in Stevenage has hugely increased.

It was also the first town in the UK to have dedicated cycle ways installed and is only 19 minutes from London by train to Kings Cross.

Stevenage town is home to a diverse range of industries, such as manufacturing, healthcare, Biotech and Aerospace  The MARS rover was built in Stevenage by Airbus who have had a site in the town for over 60 years and the town has long been associated as the UK hub for the Aerospace industry.

Over the last 10 years the town has established itself as a significant hub for Biotechnologies/Life Sciences, not only in the UK but across Europe.  The Stevenage Biosciences Catalyst (SBC), which was founded in 2010 by the UK Government and big pharma company GSK is currently home to, what is considered to be, the largest collection of Cell and Gene therapy companies in Europe.

More investment is expected in this growing and diverse area over the next decade with the hopes of generating an additional 5,000 new jobs.

Hertfordshire is also a significant contributor to the UK film industry with studio such as Elstree, Warner Brothers, Leavesden and Sunset Studios all based in and around county.

It also has a wealth of well-known people who have either been born or grew up in the town, these include; Ken Follett – worldwide bestselling author, Lewis Hamilton – Five times Formula One world champion, Kevin Phillips – England & Premier League footballer and Golden Boot winner and Ian Poulter – Golfer & Ryder Cup winner.

Tollers opened its original Stevenage solicitors office in the old town in 2014. Over the last 10 years the Tollers brand has gradually grown in prominence throughout Hertfordshire and as a forward thinking practice we have always been mindful of the expansion opportunities that might arise.

In 2020, the firm relocated to their new flagship office based in Arlington Business Park in Stevenage with a view to expanded the Hertfordshire team and the legal offering the firm provides.
